The chances are good that this picture looks a lot like the last pictures you saw of Gilbert, West Virginia. With streets flooded, businesses trashed, and lives ruined, the town's residents barely had anywhere for themselves to stay, much less have room for visitors.
One thing about West Virginians that everyone knows, however, is that they do not give up easily! As far as the Town of Gilbert is concerned, the water is gone, the mud is cleaned up, and the businesses are back. The only thing missing now is YOU.
Gilbert is a premiere example of what the Hatfield-McCoy Trails can do, but it’s been seeing a lot fewer ATVs roaming the streets since the floods on May 9 damaged businesses and homes throughout the town.
Well, the ol’ McBlog is here to let you know that Gilbert is back and better than ever. All of the trails accessible from Gilbert are up and running, and the town is back with more lodging and food offerings than ever before......perfect timing, with Trailfest coming up in a month!

After spending a week in Gilbert riding HMT I have to say that I am very impressed with the recovery your town made. To me, it appeared that almost everything was back to normal just 4 months after the devastation. In contrast to New Orleans, where after 4 YEARS people are still complaining that the government isn't doing enough for them! In my opinion, the difference is the people of Gilbrt have a work ethic gained through generations of hard work in the coal mines. An ethic that told them what they needed to do for themselves, their families, and their neighbors. Hat's off to the people of Gilbert.
Everybody we met or did business with were so friendly and helpful. Thank you Gilbert for a great time and wonderful experience.
