This week in Hatfield-McCoy Country

As anyone who reads this blog regularly knows, we never miss a chance to espouse how much fun the trail riding is at Hatfield-McCoy. But one major question we don't address nearly as often as we should is the great entertainment options you have here in southern West Virginia when you're not on the trails. Well, depending on where you are staying in Hatfield-McCoy Country, you might be surprised what you'll find!

In the town of Logan for example, there are two upcoming events that are guaranteed to be fun for everyone. First up, on September 17 at 7 p.m, Jason Michael Carrollsoon will be performing live at the Coalfield Jamboree in Logan. This up and coming country performer will be performing some of his hits such as"Livin Our Love Song', "Alyssa Lies", "Where I'm From", and "I CanSleep When I'm Dead'.

Jason Michael Carroll is a Texas native by way of North Carolina who's been on the rise as a singer-songwriter, performing alongside the likes of Carrie Underwood. His debut album "Waitin' in the Country" has produced three consecutive Top 40 country hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, and his second album, "Growing Up Is Getting Old", has produced his fourth and fifth Top 40 hits.

Doors for the show open at 6 p.m. and tickets are available now, just $14.50 pre-ordered or $17.50 at the door. For tickets or more information contact the Logan Coalfield Jamboree at (304) 752-2900 or (304) 752-5855.

For those of a more traditional bent, there will be a Gospel Sing Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Omar Community Park featuring Change of Heart, Gospel Tones Tradition, Larry Varney, The Homelighters, Higher Ground, Darrel Tomblin, Roger Mullins and others. The show kicks off at 2 p.m. and best of all, it's FREE!

The weekend of September 25 will see the return of the Rebellion in the Hills Civil War reenactment at Chief Logan State Park. The Rebellion in the Hills is an annual event that runs through the entire weekend. In addition to battlefield skirmishes between the Blue and the Grey on Saturday and Sunday, you're invited to stop on by the frontier era settlers tents for purchases of rustic and WV made items, visit the Union and Rebel camps and talk with the reenactors about the day to day lives of the men who fought the battles of brother against brother from 1860-1865.

For those of you who love history and reenactments and are interested in the southern region's Native American culture, local author Andrea Fekete will be holding a book signing at the Logan Area Public Library this October. Andrea is a college professor and writer and her book Rivers Run Wild is an eye opening and athentic novel about life in the old time coal camps!

These are just a few of Hatfield-McCoy country's upcoming events that show there's plenty to do and enjoy in Southern West Virginia; From outdoors delights like the Hatfield-McCoy Trails to educational, cultural and just plain ole fun events in our mountain communities.
